What are Pharmacological interventions?

A pharmaceutical intervention is the use of medications to treat addiction or mental health issues.

Abilify

Abilify is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is also used together with other medications to treat major depressive disorder in adults.

Adderall is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit disorder (ADD and ADHD).

Ativan is used to treat anxiety or panic disorder.

Buspirone is a sedative which is used to help people with sleeping problems.

Campral is used along with counseling and social support to help people who have stopped drinking large amounts of alcohol (alcoholism) to avoid drinking alcohol again.

Celexa

Celexa tablets and oral solution are used to treat depression.

Cymbalta

Cymbalta is used to treat depression. This medicine is also used for nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in diabetic patients.

Depakote

Depakote’s main use is to prevent seizures. It is also approved to treat bipolar disorder and for prevention of migraine headaches.

Effexor is used for treatment of depression, anxiety, and panic disorder, and tension.

Intuniv/Tenex

Guanfacine tablets (Tenex brand only) are used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Guanfacine extended-release (long-acting) tablets (Intuniv brand only) are used as part of a treatment program to control symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children.

Klonopin is used to control seizures, to relieve anxiety, treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, twitching, schizophrenia, and pain management.

Methadone

Methadone is used to relieve moderate to severe pain that has not been relieved by non-narcotic pain relievers. It also is used to prevent withdrawal symptoms in patients who were addicted to opiate drugs.

Naltrexone

Naltrexone is used along with counseling and social support to help people who have stopped drinking alcohol and using street drugs continue to avoid drinking or using drugs. Naltrexone is not be used to treat people who are still addicted.

Nicotine Patch/Nicotine Gum

Nicotine skin patches are used to help people stop smoking cigarettes. They provide a source of nicotine that reduces the withdrawal symptoms experienced when smoking is stopped.

 Nicotine chewing gum is used to help people stop smoking cigarettes. It acts as a substitute oral activity and provides a source of nicotine that reduces the withdrawal symptoms experienced when smoking is stopped.

Paxil

Paxil is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
